Weekly fishing reports for NJ & DE Bay at http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=directory.category&PDIR=74

Folks concerned, confused or ultimately conflicted by the “conservation equivalency” debate at the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) may find peace in the fact that New Jersey’s suite of options was effectively tossed out of the meeting this week. While one slot fish of 28 to 35 inches remains the primary option for 2020 regulations, a “conservation equivalency” option approval in Rhode Island at ASMFC this week ultimately added another possibility with a higher-end slot of up to 40 inches.

It seems clear that managers are looking to protect the biggest of stripers as of April 1, 2020 – the next meeting of the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council in Manahawkin on February 13 at 5 p.m. should see this regulatory effort across the goal line once and for all.

Get details in this week’s full video forecast on striped bass, including info on where you can pick up your Northeast Striped Bass Study decal from The Fisherman this Sunday in South Jersey. Nasty weather on Thursday and Friday, could clear enough by Saturday and Sunday for those looking to get on some jumbo cod, big tautog and chunky white perch too.
