Blackfish season opened up on Long Island Sound last Friday, and in New York Bight (South Shore) this past Tuesday, October 15. Tog fans have been anxiously awaiting these dates and should be out in force this weekend, weather permitting. There was a month-long spring season in April with a two fish bag limit that drew very little attention. Most anglers await the fall season which in the Sound runs from October 11 through December 9 with a three fish per day bag limit. The New York Bight season runs from October 15 through December 22 with a four fish per day limit. There is a 16-inch minimum size limit in effect for all waters.
